Tooth Ache Emergency
Our Emergency Dentist in Preston can see you if you are suffering from dental tooth pain or wisdom tooth pain. Some of the possible treatments our dentist may suggest are root canal treatments or extractions.
Root Canal Treatment:
Root Canal treatment (also called Endodontics) is needed when the blood or nerve supply of the tooth (known as the pulp) is infected through decay or injury.
A root canal is usually necessary when the tooth cannot be filled or restored any other way because the decay has reached the nerve of the tooth or the tooth has become infected. If the pulp becomes infected, the infection may spread through the root canal system of the tooth. This may eventually lead to an abscess. Unless root canal treatment (RCT) is carried out the infection will spread and the tooth may need to be extracted.
Some people may prefer an extraction; however, it is usually best to keep as many natural teeth as possible. Root canal treatment is usually very successful. However, if the infection comes back the root canal treatment can be repeated.
Root canal treatment is a skilled and time-consuming procedure that requires a local anaesthetic to anaesthetise the tooth, the root is then cleaned and filled to prevent any further infection.
Most courses of treatment will involve two or more visits to the dentist to ensure that there is no more infection. When all the infection has cleared, the tooth is then permanently filled.
Wisdom Teeth Emergency
Wisdom teeth are a third set of molars which are located right at the back of the mouth, upper and lower. wisdom_teeth
Unfortunately not all wisdom teeth erupt and can therefore become painful because they are impacted (these require removal).
Wisdom teeth may not grow in a normal straight up direction and can therefore cause problems to other teeth in the mouth.
Wisdom teeth need to be assessed by a dentist.
Dental Abscess Emergency
Symptoms include but not limited to pain, swelling, redness of the mouth and face.surgery
If the infection progresses and is severe, a patient may experience vomiting, fever, nausea and chills.
Patients may also experience drainage of pus and tenderness to touch.
The dentist will need to incise and drain the abscess and investigate the oral condition that has caused the abscess.
Broken Tooth Emergency
Broken teeth can vary in complexity. A simple Minor break (i.e. chipped tooth etc.) will usually be repaired with a filling.
A complex break may require treatment such as root canal therapy and then a crown.
Other treatment indications maybe an onlay/inlay, or in extreme cases an extraction of the tooth may be the most appropriate treatment.
